Dr. Becker describes the initial consultation and necessities required to determine candidacy for Autologous Lymph Node Transfer (ALNT).
Candidacy for surgery is considered after a thorough history and physical, along with review of MR-Lymposcintigraphy studies. MR-Lymphoscintigraphy, otherwise known as MR-Lymphangiogram, is a MRI scan of the affected and unaffected limbs. It differs from the traditional nuclear medicine lymphoscintigraphy tests because it is performed with an MRI machine and does not require injection of dye, which often causes discomfort to patients. This imaging is preferred because it provides an enhanced view of one’s lymphatic system.
